Fraud Alert

During the last few weeks we have been receiving an increased number of identity theft complaints from Yuma County citizens.

Dealing with the fallout of becoming a victim of identity theft can be a cumbersome task at best. There are several things that you should do immediately upon discovering that you have become a victim of identity theft in addition to contacting the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office or your specific local law enforcement agency.

Additionally, we have been receiving reports of the “IRS phone scam” that has been experienced all across the country this year.  If you receive a phone call from someone claiming to be an IRS agent and threatening to place a lien against you if you do not make immediate payment, hang up and contact the IRS immediately at 1-800-829-1040.  For additional information about this specific scam, follow the link HERE to go directly to the IRS website.
