October 29, 2018 – Joshua Dean Hansen (31), formerly of Yuma and most recently from Otis, was arrested over the weekend on new charges relating to narcotics possession. At the time of the incident on Saturday, Hansen was on bond for a 2016 case in which seven pounds of methamphetamine, amid other narcotics, weapons and stolen property was located in his Yuma home during an investigation into a shooting that occurred in the county.
On Saturday at approximately 10:00 am the Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a disturbance in Eckley. As a result of the on-scene investigation, Hansen was located and arrested at the Eagle Convenience in Yuma on charges of Harassment. Due to suspicions of narcotics activity, a Sheriff’s Office K9 was called to the scene to conduct a free air sniff of Hansen’s vehicle. The K9 gave three positive indications to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle and it was subsequently towed to the Sheriff’s Office for a search warrant to be sought. While being booked into the Yuma County Jail, Hansen was discovered to be in possession of methamphetamine that was concealed within his clothing and other items of interest were located within the vehicle.
In addition to Harassment, Hansen has been charged with Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance (class 4 Drug Felony), Introducing Contraband In the First Degree (class 4 Felony), Violation of Bail Bond Conditions (class 6 Felony), and Violation of a Protection Order (class 1 Misdemeanor). The investigation on this case is ongoing and further charges may be filed by the Sheriff’s Office or 13th Judicial District Attorney’s Office at a later time.
The District Attorney’s Office is expected to file a motion Monday morning revoking the bond granted to Hansen in his 2016 case. Hansen is scheduled to appear in District Court for sentencing on that case next week after having entered a plea of guilty at his last court appearance and agreeing to an 18 to 25 year sentence to the Department of Corrections.
