Cobos Charged in 2009 Sexual Assault on a Child

The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office has been investigating a case that was referred to them by the Gering, Nebraska Police Department. In September, 2013 the Gering Police Department began investigating Richard Cobos on an allegation of Sexual Assault on a Child. Cobos was later found guilty on some of the charges stemming from that investigation and was sentenced to the Nebraska Department of Corrections.

The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office learned that a sexual assault, involving the same victim, may have occurred in Yuma County in 2008. After conducting a thorough investigation and consulting with the 13th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, the Sheriff’s Office filed charges against Cobos last month for Sexual Assault on a Child by One in a Position of Trust.

Cobos was due to parole from the Nebraska Department of Corrections at the end of May, but has since been held on Yuma County’s warrant and was recently transferred to the custody of the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office. Proceedings against Cobos will begin in the coming weeks.
